So, it only makes sense that one of the world’s most influential film festivals dedicated specifically to experimental and avant-garde cinema takes place just a short drive from the Detroit area.
The Ann Arbor Film Festival, which dates back to 1963, is considered the premier forum for independent filmmakers and artists.
What is special about the Ann Arbor Film Festival?
This film festival is unique for the platform it provides to independent filmmakers and artists who push the boundaries of creative cinema.
With this year being the 64th edition of the festival, the six-day celebration of cinema will feature 86 short films and 11 feature films, the latter of which are each eligible for a piece of the festival’s roughly $40,000 award fund.
When and where is the festival?
The Ann Arbor Film Festival will take place mostly at Ann Arbor’s Michigan Theatre, where all the shorts and feature films will be presented.
However, various other businesses around Ann Arbor are hosting other events for the film festival, such as local clubs for official ‘after-hours’ hangouts or off-screen cinema discussion.
