Candlelight invites you to celebrate the magic of Christmas with a spellbinding classical concert, paying homage to some of the greats of contemporary and classical music.
You’ll be brought back to your favorite Christmas memories as you listen to classics in the likes of Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Joy to the World at Christ Church Detroit. Additionally, you can enjoy 65 minutes of ballet and Tchaikovsky’s greatest works at the Redford Theatre, or groovy holiday jazz from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Candlelight Ballet: Featuring Tchaikovsky and More
It will be a “Belle Nuit” indeed, as you take in Offenbach‘s eternal melodies from Tales of Hoffmann at the Redford Theater or relish Tchaikovsky‘s “The Nutcracker, Op. 71, Act II: No. 14c, Pas de deux. Variation II”, also known as the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
You’ll feel a sense of rush and urgency as the famous “Suite from Gayane No. 3: V. Sabre Dance” by Khachaturian resounds in the historic theater. This piece and many more will be beautifully accompanied by ballet performances, as the stage is lit up by hundreds of twinkling candles, making the evening even more magical.

That’s right, this December, Christ Church Detroit will light up as Candlelight reimagines some of your favorite holiday tunes and carols. From “Joy to the World” and “Angels We Have Heard on High” to Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker, Op. 71”, you’ll be caught in a timeless dance between nostalgia and wonder.
These magical Candlelight concerts are the perfect opportunity to get in the holiday spirit and bask in the company of loved ones, as you listen to classical renditions of holiday classics. With its trademark sea of candles, Candlelight promises to forge memories that sparkle long after the decorations are put away.
Each night there are two performances scheduled and the shows last 60-65 minutes. Doors open 45 minutes prior to the start of the show, so you have plenty of time to marvel at the venue’s interiors, snap a few Instagram-worthy pictures, and find your seats.
