Detroit has a lot to look forward to in 2024, from hosting events like the next NFL draft and its newly renovated riverfront walkway to the unveiling of the new Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park! Given all that Detroit has planned this upcoming year and how much growth it has shown as a cultural center and travel hub, it shouldn’t be such a surprise to see our city getting some well-earned recognition for it!
Why did Conde Nast Traveler rate Detroit as one of the best places to go in 2024?
Conde Nast Traveler (CNTraveler) is a global guide that considers a wide range of factors when considering destination rankings and travel suggestions, and its annual list of “Best Places to Go in North America & the Caribbean” is no different. The Conde Nast Traveler brand falls under the larger conglomerate of Conde Nest, which operates several notable brands like Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, and The New York, amongst many others, which should denote the global scale of this guide and just how valuable its recommendation is. Naturally, the highly regarded travel guide resource puts an added emphasis on novel experiences and unconventional destinations that are off the beaten path, focusing on up-and-coming scenes that many have yet to be aware of, which makes perfect sense given Detroit’s continued commitment to development and growth over the past few years. Now, with many of Detroit’s long-term projects culminating in 2024, Detroit is officially one of the best places to visit in North America.
For instance, the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park project, which has been underway since 2017, is finally going to be completed and will open in 2024, and several major businesses in Detroit are slated to either open or complete long-term renovation projects, such as the new AC Hotel which will be opening up in midtown, giving visitors a place to stay in the heart of the city this upcoming year.
What does this rating mean for Detroit?
First and foremost, this means that the long-term commitments and projects that the city of Detroit has put in place over the last few years are finally beginning to bear fruit! So while Detroit still has more plans for growth and development going forward, it’s extremely promising to see this level of recognition coming from a reputable travel guide, such as CNTraveler. What this means is that moving forward Detroit will (hopefully) see an increase in tourism and visitors, which means that the local economy and small businesses in the Detroit area would greatly benefit from the positive publicity.
