This is exciting news!
“Let’s get Detroiters vaccinated and let’s get Detroit back open,” said Detroit Mayor, Mike Duggan. After talk that the COVID-19 vaccine would be available to everyone soon, it’s been made official by a statement from President Biden that directs states to make the vaccine available for all adults starting May 1st.
All adult Americans will be eligible to get the vaccine no later than May 1.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is the one in question, but in order to make this a reality, Detroit needs to open a lot more health care facilities.
We believe we could open eligibility to all in May. In order to achieve this, we must open more centers, today the Detroit Health Department has now administered 120,000 vaccines. #SOTC313 pic.twitter.com/ri3hLnLn79

This is great news, and a great trajectory for Detroit returning to a state of normalcy. We’ve discussed how crucial it is to get people vaccinated, such as people on the front lines in food service, agricultural, and those who are high risk. This announcement comes as a big relief to all, but it remains to be seen just how states will keep up.
Mayor Duggan also stated, “a second major vaccine site will be opened at the Northwest Activity Center for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.” So there is a plan in place for the next upcoming months.
It remains to be seen, but for now, this is excellent news, and hopefully Detroiters can breathe a sigh of relief.
