While we’ve seen first-hand how much Detroit has changed over the years, it’s been a while since we felt that the Motor City got the credit it deserved!
Now, after all that slow but steady growth, Detroit has been acknowledged by Money.com’s 2024 ranking of the best places to live in the United States.
After a town less than an hour from Detroit gets ranked for having the best quality of life in the entire country, it was only a matter of time before people realized how great life in Detroit itself is as well!
Where did Detroit rank in the top 50 best places to live in America?
The ranking system does not specify exactly where each of the top 50 places in their listing come numerically, so while we know Detroit is one of the Top 50 Best Places To Live In America, it’s unfortunately not possible for us to be sure whether Detroit ranked #1 or ranked #50.
That being said, the ranking system did include a few segmented sections that further explained why each city was selected, which included:
- Suburbs with Soul
- New Boomtowns
- Culture Hubs
- Not Just College Towns
- Best Kept Secrets
Detroit was included in the “Culture Hubs” category for the ranking and was the very first City mentioned in this category! While we can’t say for certain that this means Detroit is the biggest “Culture Hub” in the country, we certainly think it’s interesting that Detroit was the very first place mentioned, beating out cities like Atlanta or Sacramento.
Why is Detroit considered one of the 50 best places to live in America?
While we might have our own opinions as to why the D is pretty great, according to the official ranking, factors like its incredible investment in growth paying off and construction projects like the Joe Louis Greenway and the upcoming Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park were big factors.
Additionally, the cultural influence that Detroit has had over the years is peaking once again, with Detroit’s perception transitioning from ‘undergoing a recovery’ to ‘preparing itself for the future’.
Not to mention, according to these rankings, with Detroit’s median real-estate listing price at only $85,000 and the unemployment rate only at 2.6%, the city is poised to boom in the coming years!
