According to a recent ranking made by the World’s 101 Best Steakhouses, one of Detroit’s very own steakhouses managed to rank among the ’50 Best’ in all of North America!
The local steakhouse in question is none other than the iconic Prime + Proper!
Where did Prime + Proper rank among the 50 best steakhouses in North America?
The list of the 50 best steakhouses in North America ranked Prime + Proper as the #20 best steakhouse on the continent!
On a global level, it was ranked the 69th best steakhouse in the world this past year.
For those of us who’ve tasted a porterhouse here, it’s little shock to see how highly they rank considering the attention to detail and the incredible ingredients used in every dish.

What made Prime + Proper stand out?
Referring to Prime + Proper as Detroit’s “Modern Cathedral of Steak and Precision,” the World’s Best Steakhouses said that they were defining the new American steakhouse where legacy butchery and the art of open fire grilling intersect with modern hospitality.
With its stunning interior and equally stunning cuts of beef, Prime + Proper truly turned heads with its “obsessive” focus on quality, which can best be observed through the restaurant’s sourcing of beef with picture-perfect marbling and its in-house ageing process.

What are the best things to order?
According to the review, the standouts include:
- The bone marrow with sourdough ash
- Butter-poached lobster tail
- Smoked foie gras torchon
- The 100+ day dry-aged ribeye
However, while they did mention the above plates by name, they also went on to say that “every steak tells a story of patience, fire, and finesse.”
So, while there are a few specific items that impressed the judges, there is truly nothing you can order here that won’t be a quality meal.
