The Summer sun is shining down and what better way to spend the day than by taking the family to the most fun place you can imagine within driving distance!
These theme parks are some of our favorites in the great Detroit area and are places you should definitely plan to visit at least once!
1. Cedar Point – Sandusky, OH
One of the biggest roller coaster theme parks in the entire world, Cedar Point features over 70 unique rides which include 17 adrenaline-inducing incredible roller coasters!
This theme park is perfect for all ages and suitable for anything from a special weekend trip, birthday events, and pretty much any other excuse you can think of!

2. Michigan’s Adventure – Muskegon, MI
The biggest theme park in the state of Michigan, Michigan’s Adventure is a Summertime favorite amongst Michiganders hoping for a fun getaway – the park boasts over 50 rices, including 7 unique roller coasters!
For those extra hot Summer days, there is also their Water Park area, WildWater Adventure, which is also a great spot if you’re looking for a unique plan that’s fun for the whole family.

3. Legoland Discovery Center Michigan – Auburn Hills, MI
One of the closest theme parks to Detroit just so happens to be within the Metro area!
The LEGO-themed attraction is filled with exhibits and interactive play areas fun for everyone, including a few kid-friendly rides, and even a 4D cinema that shows all the classic LEGO movies we all love.
Distance from Detroit: 40 minutes
4. Six Flags Great America – Gurnee, Il
A bit further away if you’re willing to make the trek is Six Flag Great America – which features over a dozen unique roller coasters with names like ‘Goliath’, ‘Raging Bull’, and ‘X-Flight’ – this place is perfect for thrill-seekers and adrenaline junkies!
In addition to the incredible theme park area, there is also a water park, Hurricane Harbor, in case you are hoping to beat the heat in the funniest way possible.

5. Kings Island – Mason, OH
This theme park is truly built for a King – over 100 incredible rides including 14 iconic roller coasters like ‘The Beast’, ‘Orion’, and ‘Diamondback’ it almost feels like a crime to not have a great time here.
That being said, of all their iconic rides, it should be worth stating the best of all might just be their kids’ ride, Planet Snoopy.

6. Adventure Bay Family Water Park – Windsor, Canada
Just across the Detroit River, practically just a 15-minute drive (depending on how long it takes at the border crossing) you can get to one of the best indoor water parks you’ll visit in your life!
Adventure Bay is an incredible spot for the whole family that is great to visit all year round but particularly appreciated during the cold months when you’d never expect to have so much fun at a water park.
