This Experimental Detroit Cocktail Bar Has Serious Speakeasy Vibes

This classy yet quirky bar is giving us serious speakeasy vibes…

Bad Luck Bar in Capitol Park transports guests to another world, a cosmopolitan alternate universe awash with hexagonal details and innovative cocktails. But first, you’ll have to find it.

The only entrance to this unique cocktail hideaway is down an alley. Guests first need to find the hidden door, then call a secret number to be escorted down a dark hallway into the bar itself. A curtain at the end of the hallway hides away the illuminati-inspired interior until the moment guests step in.

Inside, the immaculately crafted cocktails don’t come cheap — but reviewers attest that the ingenuity and ambiance is well worth it. The Alchemist, a menu standby, features a tea-infused reyka vodka, champagne strawberry shrub, cinnamon, cardamom bitters, lemon, soda, and house-made pop rocks. Each drink also comes with a short list of attributes as well as an element of theatrics: everything from a puff of smoke to edible “dinosaur eggs.”

Currently, Bad Luck Bar is only seating reservations and call-ahead patrons. Check out their website for details.

Find it at 1218 Griswold St, Detroit, MI 48226.
