The Detroit Lions front office has reportedly been making ‘aggressive’ strides to “put on a spectacular show” at the NFL Draft this April and also to ensure the city continues to rally behind the Lions’ recent success.
Some of these efforts have come in the form of proposed rule changes made by the Lions and have since been accepted by the other league, specifically, this new rule proposed by the Lions and accepted by the NFL is that: a team only needs to get one of their first two “challenge” calls correct to receive a third, additional “challenge”.
Lions get NFL approval for “live mascot” to be on the sideline
However, while this new rule proposed by the Lions has been widely reported on and discussed in the NFL community, there is another rule that the Lions’ front office was hoping for the NFL to change, the allowance of a live animal mascot on the field! The Detroit Lions head coach, Dan Campbell, publically stated as recently as January that the Lions’ owner, Sheila Ford Hamp, “had no problem with it”, but that the NFL approval would be required to move forward with the Lions having a live Lion on the sideline.
Introducing the Detroit Lions’ new mascot
With the Detroit Lions getting approval for their recent request for a live animal mascot that can be on the sideline at Ford Field before kick-off, the Detroit Lions have now unveiled their new mascot, Roary the Tiger, or Roary I, with the help of the Detroit Zoo the intent of building a unique tradition for the next generation of Lions fans, while also promoting the awareness and protection of these ‘vulnerable’ species.
When are the Lions going to announce ‘Roary I’?
According to those close to the situation with the front office, the plan for the Detroit Lions is to announce Roary I and show him to the world formally at the NFL draft in Detroit later this month!
