Detroit’s dining scene is evolving. Chefs are reworking local staples, and “Best of Detroit” lists range from fine dining and live-fire cooking to pasta, BBQ, tacos, and oysters. Dining in the Dark Detroit brings something entirely different to the table. Food you eat but do not see. From July 23 through July 26, the experience is marking its birthday with 20% off tickets.
The blindfolded three-course experience has found a mysterious home at The Detroit Club, a Gilded Age-style landmark once frequented by presidents and industrialists. It’s a historic private social club and boutique hotel in downtown Detroit, known for its 19th‑century Romanesque Revival building. The dinners take place just once a month, so dates are limited.

You choose a meat, seafood, or vegan menu when booking. The dishes remain a mystery.
Once seated, you put on a blindfold and work through three courses without the visual clues that shape expectation. Aroma, texture, and flavour take over. Familiar ingredients become harder to place, while an unexpected crunch can send the table into debate.
Your senses are not becoming stronger. You are simply paying closer attention.
An emcee guides the 90-minute dinner, and guests can use the cutlery provided or work things out by hand. Expect misplaced glasses, wrong guesses, and moments when table manners become complicated.
That uncertainty is part of the appeal. Without eye contact or the usual distractions, you listen more carefully and notice how your companion reacts.

The Detroit Club
The Detroit Club has occupied its Downtown building since 1891, though the private social club was founded in 1882. Its visitors have included Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Charles Lindbergh and John D. Rockefeller.
The building carries the atmosphere of an old private club, with formal dining rooms, dark wood, and more than a century of discreet conversations behind it. The property also contains a library, ballroom, hotel suites, spa, and cigar-bar spaces, though these are not confirmed as part of Dining in the Dark.
The meal is served within this historic setting, where Bohemia offers American cooking with a contemporary approach. The contrast works: an ornate room with a long history, experienced almost entirely without sight.
Once the blindfold goes on at Dining in the Dark, the surroundings recede. The sense of occasion remains.
