First opening in 1913, and being considered one of the biggest train stations in the world at the time, Michigan Central Station was at the time just as significant as Grand Central Station in NYC and was a crucial destination in American commerce at the time. After closing in 1988 and quickly falling into disrepair, the station became a symbol of Detroit’s downfall and a seemingly tragic reminder of how far Detroit has come since its glory days of the past, but now, that’s all about to change! After over 30 years, Michigan Central Station is finally going to be reopening for the first time this summer, completing a full circle of Detroit’s redevelopment!
Now, given that the Michigan Central Station served such an important role as the principal regional train station in the central U.S. at the time and how important Detroit was during America’s Industrial Revolution, it’s no surprise that a lot of VIPs traveled passed through it! So, without further ado, here are a few of the most notable names that could have passed through Michigan Central Central Station!
1. President Theodore Roosevelt
