Looks like Instagram Boyfriends have a brand new gig.
You may have heard of Selfie Museums before, like the Museum of Selfies in Hollywood that blew up on Instagram. Now, Detroit’s got their own premier Selfie Museum, The Pose Experience, that’s perfect for special occasions like graduations, birthdays, or even girl’s night. It also doubles as a content creation studio perfect for hustlers trying to make a side gig from their passions, and need a pretty space to market themselves and their business.
The Pose Experience recently opened its doors Friday, February 13th with 10 selfie locations: the Venetian Rose Bath, the Donut Wall, the Phone Booth Wall, the Vogue Room, the Pink Boss Babe Room, the Bali Room, the Hall of Frame Room, the Red Room, and the Dream Closet room. The founders, three local women entrepreneurs, hope to change the sets every season to keep things new and fresh.
The Pose Experience came from a rough 2020 for one of the founders, Danielle Hughes. In 2020, her step father, who she was very close with, passed away from COVID, leaving her looking for a positive outlet. According to an interview with Evrod Cassimy, Hughes said her therapist suggested, “she come up with a positive distraction as she cope[ed] with the pain.” The three women and friends created the Selfie Experience from the hardships of 2020, and booked their museum completely for Valentine’s Day, only two days after going live.
Influencers and Detroiters looking to immortalize meaningful moments have already been taking selfies and posting them on the ‘gram in a COVID-safe space. According to their website, guests can book a spot for 1 hour. 45 of those minutes will be a self-guided tour through the museum to take as many photos as they like, and the last 15 minutes, the space is to be vacant in order to deep clean in preparation for the following guests. Guests have to book in advance and are free to bring a change of clothes, camera, or photographer with them, so long as they book a slot at the same time.
The Selfie Experience is one you won’t want to miss out on. They’re open seven days a week from 12-9pm, and tickets can be purchase here.
