TIME Magazine has released the 2026 version of its highly touted list of ‘The World’s Great Places‘, and Detroiters should be excited to hear that a local spot has officially been named one of the ‘Greatest Places To Stay’ in the world!
The local spot featured by TIME was none other than the iconic Dearborn Inn, a historic hub of hospitality that was commissioned by Henry Ford himself in 1931.
At the time, the Dearborn Inn revolutionized hospitality by catering to travelers at Ford’s nearby Dearborn Airport, offering guests like Eleanor Roosevelt and Walt Disney the peak of that era’s luxury.
As time passed, the glory of the Dearborn Inn slowly faded into legend as it gradually fell into disrepair.
Fortunately, after the major restoration effort started in 2023, the Inn reopened in March 2025 as part of the Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection.

Why TIME considers the Dearborn Inn as one of the ‘Best Places to Stay’ in the world
TIME praised the execution of the Dearborn Inn’s restoration project, emphasizing that it refurbished the Inn’s main building with commendable attention to detail and respect for the space’s history.
In addition to the Dearborn Inn building itself, the Inn’s four iconic ‘Replica Homes’ were also restored to their former glory!
Also built in the 1930s under Henry Ford’s direction, these ‘Replica Homes’ were architecturally inspired by the actual residences of the historic figures they were named after!
The four historic figures who each had a ‘house’ built to replicate their own residence include:
- Walt Whitman House – Four-room shared luxury home
- Edgar Allen Poe House – Private one-bedroom full-home suite
- Patrick Henry House – Six-room grand group-friendly home
- Barbara Fritchie House – Three-room, intimate shared home
TIME also highlighted the on-site restaurant, Clara’s Table, named for Henry Ford’s wife, which does an amazing job blending the property’s history and heritage while also channeling the nearby nature, where wild animals still thrive today.
And while TIME was clearly smitten with their stay at the Dearborn Inn, they also raved about Dearborn’s culinary scene, stating that Dearborn is “as compelling to eat through as it is to sleep in.”
