If you want to give back to the local community and support local kids, while also wanting to get a new tattoo, then boy this is the event for you! On December 22nd, Motown Tattoo Company is hosting its sixth annual Toys for Tatts drive from 12:00 pm until 9 pm, where you can receive a complimentary tattoo or piercing by bringing in a new toy with the purchase receipt from the store. The catch is that the value of the tattoo or piercing will match that of the donated toy, which means that the more you invest in the toy you plan to donate the higher quality or bigger than tattoo you could expect to get in return. Also, it’s worth noting that all the tips that the artists make during the event are also going to be contributed to the toy drive’s charitable donation.
Even if you aren’t interested in receiving a tattoo or piercing, you’re still more than welcome to participate in the event, where you can drop off any donations between 12 pm and 8 pm at the Tattoo Parlor’s location.
What is Toys for Tatts?
The owner of Motown Tattoo Company, Tee Bullis, has spoken publicly about his difficult upbringing which makes this event so important to him, “I grew up with nothing, so I know what it is like. Every donation that we got as kids helped us out so I’m just trying to give back to the community.” In years past, the toys collected from this event have gone to help around 50 local Detroit families provide new toys to their children in spite of them being in a difficult financial position. The toys were hand-delivered to a local school on Detroit’s east side, ensuring the toys made it into the hands of the children who would benefit from the program the most.
The nice part about the program as well, is that even though bringing a toy guarantees you an on-the-spot tattoo, if Motown Tattoo Company is at capacity on the day of the event, they’ve already stated that an appointment would be scheduled for another date.
