This Autumn is the perfect time to experience some of the incredibly beautiful nature that you can find right here in the Detroit area!
By driving less than an hour, here are five fantastic spots to visit to surround yourself with beautiful fall foliage before the season ends.
1. Belle Isle Park
It is a tried and true spot that we didn’t have the heart to leave off this list!
Belle Isle Park gives incredible views of the Detroit skyline and enough trees to make it a lovely experience to see the leaves transform into deep reds and oranges for the fall season!
While you’re there, check out the Aquarium for free and make it a lovely full-day activity that the whole family will enjoy.
2. Stony Creek Metropark
Only about 45 minutes from Detroit by car, this natural park in Shelby Township is filled with spectacular fall foliage for you to traverse and enjoy.
Along with the park’s rolling hills, dense wooded areas, and lakes, you’ll find neatly carved-out hiking paths and biking trails to follow.
The true highlight, however, is Stony Creek Lake, a lovely site particularly in Autumn when it is surrounded by beautiful fall foliage!
3. Paint Creek Trail
Roughly 40 minutes from Detroit is this lovely rail trail that follows the flow of Paint Creek, as it flows towards the Clinton River.
The trail starts at Lake Orion with multiple stops before concluding in South Rochester Hills, giving the path a total length of around 8.9 miles, perfect for a lengthy bike ride if you want to capitalize on a nice day by spending a few hours surrounded by nature!
This is one of the best spots to be surrounded by nature and fall foliage in the Detroit area without actually having to venture too far from town.
4. Kensington Metropark
Nearly 4,500 acres of dense woods, hills, and the iconic Kent Lake, make this place an ideal destination for anyone hoping to snap a few photos of fall foliage before it gets too late this season.
In the fall you’ll also be able to take part in weekend Hayrides on Saturdays and Sundays right there at the park!
5. Huron Meadows Metropark
Just under an hour from the D is Huron Meadows Metropark, which has over 1,500 acres of park along the Huron River!
You’ll find ample space for hiking, biking, fishing, and even a 72-hole golf course!
There are also plenty of quiet, tranquil spots along the path for bird watching or having a quick picnic amongst the fall foliage.
