One of the most unique full moons of the year is almost upon us!
Tomorrow evening, on Wednesday, April 1st, a full ‘pink’ moon will be floating over the Detroit horizon, and if the weather permits, it will light up the night sky.
This will be the first official full moon of spring, which means consistently warm weather should finally be here soon.
What is a full pink moon?
A full pink moon refers to a full moon during April, and it just so happens that this will also be considered a Paschal Moon, meaning that it is the first full moon of spring!
The name “Pink Moon” doesn’t refer to the moon’s color; its name is inspired by the color of the blooming creeping phlox (also known as moss phlox) often associated with early spring.

When is the full ‘pink’ moon going to happen, and will it be visible?
The full pink moon will be on Wednesday, April 1st, and is expected to peak in its “fullness” at around 10:11 pm; however, one of the best times to photograph the full moon will actually be a few hours earlier, around 7:50 pm, because the moon will appear low over the horizon and be a bright orange hue.
Regarding visibility, as a result of storm clouds that moved into Detroit today, there is a chance that cloud cover could limit visibility of the full moon; however, there is still a chance that the clouds will clear by Wednesday evening.
That being said, considering the moon will appear to be full for another 24 hours, there is a chance that you’ll be able to see it on the evening of Thursday, April 2nd, and while it won’t technically be at its peak, it should still be a stunning sight!
