Detroit’s Downtown tree lighting ceremony is one of the most exciting moments of the year, it’s a full-blown signal that the holiday season is finally upon us! The special 20th-anniversary edition of the traditional ceremony will be at the same location as always; Downtown by Campus Martius Park and will feature live performances, local Detroit celebrities, and of course tons of holiday-themed festivities.
This year, downtown Detroit’s holiday tree is a mesmerizing 65-foot Norway spruce from Lake City, Michigan. It will be completely covered in glittering ornaments and be wrapped in over 20,000 Christmas lights.
When does the tree lighting ceremony start?
The Downtown Detroit holiday tree lighting ceremony is today, November 17th, and starts at 4 pm and then will continue into the night until 9 pm. This meant to kick off the holiday festivities in Downtown Detroit, so the good news is that once you are there there will be plenty to do as the downtown holiday markets and Cadillac Lodge are open until 11 pm!
What is the tree lighting ceremony going to include?
There are going to be a ton of festivities going on including live performances from local bands and on-ice performances being held by Olympic figure skaters, award-winning local performers, and skating clubs. On top of all that, there will also be festive attractions to do some holiday shopping, hot chocolate giveaways, food trucks, horse-drawn carriages, visits from Santa, and so much more!
